What Is A Pressure Transducer Used For?

Used in emergency medical care

In hyperbaric medicine, a patient is placed in an airtight chamber with increased pressure. Several medical conditions can benefit from its use, including burns, skin grafts, carbon monoxide poisoning, and divers’ decompression sickness.

Inaccurate blood pressure readings can lead to an incorrect diagnosis; thus, this must be done carefully. Tiny pressure sensors are now implantable thanks to technological advancements. This method, known as “in vivo blood pressure sensing,” allows for more precise blood pressure monitoring.

Finding a Water Pipe Leak

One can locate a water leak using pressure transducers. Large pressure drops across a pipeline could indicate a leak. Water leakage may be to blame if the readings from two pressure transducers installed in succession in a pipeline show a significant discrepancy in the absence of any other impediments that may cause the pressure to drop.

Measuring the pressure of gases

Liquids, gases, and flammable or non-combustible, corrosive or non-corrosive all use pressure sensors. Selecting the pressure sensor with the gas type in mind is crucial.

Ammonia, methylamine, and hydrogen chloride are some corrosive gases that pressure sensors can handle. A pressure transducer intended for combustible gases must either be explosion-proof or have a certificate stating that it is safe for such usage.

Automotive applications

A vehicle’s hydraulic brakes are an essential safety feature, and brake-based vehicle control relies on various parts, including pressure sensors. You can install them to keep tabs on the pressure inside the braking system’s chambers, sounding an alarm for the driver and the engine management system if the pressure drops too low.

Failure to monitor chamber pressure can rapidly reduce braking effectiveness and cause accidents without the driver’s knowledge.

Until lately, airbags were only built to deploy for the front two seats in the event of a collision. Airbag advancements inside and outside automobiles have resulted in safer results for passengers in any seat and pedestrians alike due to their speedier deployment times.

Reusing the exhaust gases the engine produces has reduced harmful pollutants and made driving much safer for the environment.

Pressure drop measurement across a filter

Also, you can use differential pressure transducers to monitor pressure drops over a filter. A significant decrease in pressure indicates that the filter is clogged and needs to be cleaned or replaced. Because a dirty filter allows less fluid flow, downstream pressure can decrease.
